PORTRAITS

The following images are of four subjects; Steph, Christopher, Jessica and myself, Joel. All four images were taken in New York, Madison Square Gardens and each image posses similar characteristics.  Once each image is uploaded into Google's search image, the similarities are endless and personal online identity is questioned. The animated gif image to the right of the subjects portrait is a collection of a a few images collected via Google image search as a representation of identity results and how the subjects identity is altered through the search engine.

Perception is the underlying question..,

“I always thought a part of me resembled Marilyn Monroe..”

“Google recognises me personally by my gender and similar photographic themes, such as black and white, which is what I think is the foundation of this image, not so much my own personal identity. I wonder who these people are..”

“When I see this image, to me it’s brought together as a results of innocence and happiness. Combinations of identity and equality similarities are the contrast points on how Google sees me. The young girl is my favourite, my childhood comes straight to mind.”

“Gender, race, sexuality and the colour of your skin are no defining factors in Google’s eyes, there is no judgment, only similarities. We are all individual products brought together by differences and similarities – these people may not look like me but who am I to say we don’t share the same interests, beliefs and values; this is the beauty of rarity”
